FundIt is the Ireland-wide crowd funding site, a great idea where the public can put some money towards someone’s beloved project to help it happen. The person who donates money “wins” a special treat connected with the project. And my favourite project looking for money at the moment is one trying to raise money for a festival on Sherkin Island. I don’t know those organising the Sherkin Festival but their idea of getting the band Kila to play on the island is inspirational. Kila’s wild and plaintive music is ideally suited to the jewel of an island surrounded by a sparkling sea that am I looking out on. They only had until today to raise the funds, and I do hope they did, it’s certainly a festival I want to go to; though given a good wind I could even hear it from my kitchen. And if you don’t get the chance to fund the Kila Festival in Sherkin, then there always another idea looking for funding that came out of a meeting at the West Cork Literary Festival last year. Alan Nolan and Pauline Hill are looking for funding for The Cream of the Milk, a broadsheet celebrating various famous Irish women, including Peig Sayers, who probably would have greatly enjoyed watching Kila on Sherkin!
