Apologies for the break in service. The weather was so glorious that it would have been almost immoral to have been inside. It was a week of gardening, sun bathing, swimming and aestivation. Yes..aestivation, or prolonged dormancy brought on by hot weather. Normally a term applied to fish or amphibians but also to drowsy West Corkonians. However, there are a number of festivals coming up so needless to say the weather is now cooler and damper. This will, no doubt, be soothing to the numerous red and crispy bodies that aestivated in the sun all weekend!

Upcoming West Cork Festivals:

June 14th – 16th Jim Dowling Uillean Pipe and Trad Festival, Glengariff.

June 15th – 16th West Cork Islands Festival, various islands!

June 21st – 23rd The Baltimore Pirate Festival, Baltimore.

June 28th – 6th July West Cork Chamber Music Festival, Bantry

June 22nd Dusk ‘Till Dawn Spoken Word Festival, Clonakilty.

July 5th – 7th Singing Workshop Weekend “A Summer Songbook”, Courtmacsherry.

July 6th South of Ireland Band Championships, Clonakilty.

July 7th – 13th West Cork Literary Festival, Bantry.

July 19th – 21st Bantry Bay Food Fair, Bantry.

August 14th – 18th Masters of Tradition, Bantry.

Unfortunately, I won’t get to all of these, as much as I’d like to, but I will no doubt manage the Baltimore Pirate festival as it is just down the road. On a no less swashbuckling theme I am also determined to get to Mary Robinson’s talk at the literary festival. The dawn parade at 5am for the Dusk ‘Til Dawn festival also sounds wonderful, though that depends on the weather….

Finally, and tardily, the next poetry ponder:

All disasters are local. This picture shows how those not affected will carry on regardless and that the fall of Icarus troubled no-one.

And the poem is?
